Each May at the annual Madonna Mass and reception, the NCCW recognizes outstanding young women who demonstrate acts of faith, humility, generosity, and kindness through school, parish, and community involvement.
Please join us in congratulating all the 2025 nominees and this year's winner, Margaret Dobie! Ava Anderson Ava volunteers at Dakota Woodlands and is a Salesian Leader at Visitation, leading several retreats. She’s also served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EM) and lector, and has participated in several sports. Her nominator wrote, “She has a strong sense of justice and wants to be sure that students are heard, known, and loved. She demonstrates and ‘lives Jesus’ with strength and confidence in her relationships and daily actions.”
Margaret Dobie | 2025 Spirit of Mary Award Winner Margaret participates in several volunteer activities, including Birthright, the St. Agnes preschool, Feed My Starving Children, Vacation Bible School, and Totus Tuus. She is an officer of the Pro Life Club at St. Agnes, is President of the Math Team, President of the National Honor Society, and participates in the Militia Immaculata, Nativity Youth Group, and several other activities. Her nominator noted, “She has a core Marian attitude of receptivity and concern for her fellow students, especially in doing non-showy tasks that need doing.” Margaret has chosen Birthright Pregnancy Resources for the charitable portion of her award.
Lucia Michel Lucia volunteers with the Visitation Sisters in North Minneapolis, and has served as a Totus Tuus student leader for many years. She is a student EM, sacristan, and Salesian Leader in Visitation’s lower school. She is active in theatre and choir, has helped lead both the Red Cross Blood Drive and a local Catholic girl’s group, and is a leader in the Life Club. Her nominator said, “She is joyfully able to share deeper ideas and truth of the Catholic faith among her peers. She speaks confidently and compassionately about faith, God, and seeking meaning in the midst of everyday life.”
Katie Miller Katie is an accomplished swimmer and has shared her gifts coaching young adults with cognitive disorders at the Clownfish Swim Club. She’s also been the head volunteer coordinator there, is part of the Visitation leadership committee, Visitation swim team, is manager of the St. Thomas swim team, and coaches for the Catholic Athletic Association. Katie’s nominator said, “What is most remarkable is the way she recognizes and honors God for the gifts she has been given. It is not sufficient for her to experience her personal success without sharing the gifts she has received.”
Caity Robinson Caity has volunteered at a number of charities including the Union Gospel Mission and the Sister Jose Women’s Shelter in Tuscon, where she earned her Girl Scout silver award by rebuilding the garden. She’s been a long-time altar server, is the yearbook editor at her school and volunteers in many other school ministries. She’s volunteered for Totus Tuus and is part of the Nativity Youth group. Her nominator wrote, “Caity exhibits the Spirit of Mary in her daily life. She is hardworking, kind, and willing to step up for whatever needs to be done.”
Hannah Rae Schreier Hannah Rae volunteers with the Visitation Sisters in North Minneapolis, serves meals at Loaves and Fishes, and tutors homeless children at Dakota Woodlands. At Visitation she is a Eucharistic Ministry coordinator, has been an officer in student government for four years, and participates in several sports, including softball, curling, crew and volleyball. Her nominator wrote, “She is deeply dedicated to her faith and gently encourages others to explore theirs and to be their best selves.”
